Ps. It’s something to do with hats…
Two big days happening in the space of a week and still no extra Bank Holiday.
One is something that everyone’s already extremely bored with and the other is… well, we’ll let you be the judge of that.
As with the build-up to any big event, we don’t want to overload you with anything that prevents you from finalising all the last-minute stuff and getting yourself geared up for the pre-day excitement.
So, this month, we’re going to keep our message short and sweet. (Please tell us that wasn’t a “Hurrah!” we heard.)
You see, there’s a lot that weddings and GDPR have in common. Okay, unless you’re really planning on going to town on the 25th when GDPR comes into force, you shouldn’t have any need for flowers, rings and confetti, but bear with us – you’ll still have your checklist that you’ve either worked through or have (hopefully) nearly completed.
Being ready and prepared is one thing. But it doesn’t stop there.
To have and to hold. To love and to cherish. For better, for worse…
Because, as with a marriage, once the massive build-up is over and the big day has actually passed, there’s still plenty to do.
In fact, it’s just the start…
- Like the need to continuously work to build the right environment and contingencies for the relationship to strengthen and flourish.
- Like the need to ensure that there’s good communication throughout your organisation and with your customers about the good, the bad and the ugly aspects of GDPR – particularly in the event of a data breach.
- And, crucially, the need to keep wearing the right hat so that you’re not only cultivating a sustainable data protection culture, but also nurturing a positive ethos on why wanting to keep people’s data safe should never wear off.
That’s it, essentially: how marriage and GDPR go together. (And, in case you’re wondering, there shouldn’t be any need to take your data to bed with you. That’s where the analogy ends.)

It may be that your relationship with GDPR hasn’t yet got off to the best start. Maybe you’ve left things a little late and are still getting there, or been completely unaware of it (how?!) altogether.
Either way, all’s not lost. Once the morning after the night before arrives, you’ll still have plenty of time to build a long and lasting happy marriage – both with GDPR and your customers.
Of course, we’re assuming that you’re going to start committing to that sooner rather than later.
Otherwise, what with the prospect of poor compliance and a dreaded data breach, you could be looking at a right royal ****-up.
Then what would one do?
