Webinar: Practical Retention

Watch Now

One of the most popular and regularly asked question we get is "how long can we keep personal data?'

For many organisations building a reliable and maintained retention schedule is really "too challenging" as they "do not have the time to invest into building one", especially as "we can keep data forever, right?".

The GDPR states that personal data shall be 'kept in a form which permits identification of data subjects for no longer than is necessary for the purposes for which the personal data are processed" [article 5] and "the controller shall implement appropriate technical and organisational measures for ensuring that, by default, only personal data which are necessary for each specific purpose of processing are processed".

Listen to Kellie and her co-host Charlotte Martin from Shredding Made Simple talk about:

  • the benefits of building an organisation retention schedule
  • where to start with building your retention schedule
  • examples statutory and non-statutory retention periods
  • what to consider when a retention period ends
The information and remarks provided in this article represent insight and guidance for best practice which is correct or valid or appropriate at time of publication.
